A once-in-a-lifetime fishing experience, the thrill of bringing in a marlin seasons Blue or Striped Marlin is on every angler’s bucket list. These massive, powerful fish dance and skip on the end of your line, putting up one of the most exciting fights in all saltwater sports.

While every location offers great Marlin fishing, certain destinations have more success with the species than others, depending on the time of year you visit. Generally speaking, the eastern Pacific is famous for its Marlin fishing from November to April, with Kona and the surrounding waters a particular hotspot (over 60 marlin over 1000 lb have been caught in Hawaiian waters).

The Caribbean offers excellent Blue and White Marlin fishing from December through March, especially from the coasts of Cozumel and Cancun. The west coast of Mexico is also an excellent place to target these apex predators, with Cabo San Lucas and the Revillagigedos Islands being particularly good spots for Black Marlin and Blue Marlin respectively.

Blue Waters and Big Game: Exploring the Best Marlin Fishing Spots

A little further south, Fiji’s idyllic chain of pristine islands is a legendary Big Game fishing destination. Quepos in Costa Rica is a particular Marlin hotspot, thanks to its offshore structures known as FAD’s (Fish Aggregating Devices) which attract huge numbers of open ocean fish.

Back in the United States, Florida’s Atlantic coast is a good destination for Marlin, with the best bite occurring from April to July. Ocean City in Maryland is also a top spot for catching White Marlin, with the world-famous White Marlin Open tournament held there each August. Panama is another top Marlin destination, with the Pinas Bay and other reefs on its western Pacific coast being excellent Black Marlin fishing grounds.
